Repiping
Repiping replaces all of a home's water supply lines in one planned project, and it is the permanent answer when a house keeps producing leaks faster than they are worth patching. Most Jacksonville repipes today are done in PEX, routed through attics and walls with far less demolition than homeowners expect. We quote the entire job as one fixed price upfront and patch the access openings before we call it done.
What the job includes
- A full walkthrough of the existing system and a room-by-room plan
- One fixed written quote for the whole project, patching included
- New PEX supply lines throughout, with copper stub-outs where appropriate
- New shut-off valves at every fixture and a new main shut-off
- Water on each night; shut-offs limited to planned working hours
- A final walkthrough testing every fixture with you present
How you know it’s time
You are on a first-name basis with pipe leaks
A second or third leak in different parts of the house is the pattern that matters. The pipe is failing as a system, and each patch buys less time.
Rusty or discolored water from the tap after time away
Brown or yellow water on first draw points to corroding galvanized supply lines, common in Florida homes built before the 1970s.
Weak water pressure that has faded over the years
Galvanized pipe closes up from the inside like a clogged artery. When pressure is poor at every fixture, the pipes are usually the reason.
Your insurer or inspector has flagged the pipe material
Some carriers surcharge or decline older galvanized and certain vintage materials. A documented repipe settles the question for good.
When to make the call
Start a repipe conversation when leak repairs have become a pattern rather than an event, when discolored water or fading pressure points to galvanized lines, or ahead of a renovation that will open walls anyway. It is a planned project, not a reaction: the right time is one you choose calmly. If your system has years left, we will say so.

Broward & Miami-Dade
Polybutylene was the standard supply pipe in Florida from roughly 1978 to 1995, and it is still in the walls of a great many homes in Coral Springs, Rock Creek, Miami Lakes, Kendale Lakes and Pembroke Pines. Galvanized steel is still in the 1950s houses of Hollywood, North Miami Beach and Hialeah. Either is a repipe candidate; we route new PEX through attics and existing chases to keep the wall work small, and quote it as a planned project you schedule.
Jacksonville & the First Coast
Two groups of Jacksonville homes drive most repipes. Pre-1970s houses in Riverside, Avondale, Murray Hill, and San Marco often still carry original galvanized steel supply lines, now rust-choked after decades of service. Meanwhile, mineral-rich water from the Floridan aquifer works on every system in town, and certain vintages of thin-wall copper have pitted early. Slab construction shapes the job too: rather than fighting pipes buried in concrete, a Jacksonville repipe reroutes overhead through the attic, where PEX is at its best.

How long does it take to repipe a house?
Most single-family homes are repiped in two to five days, depending on size, fixture count, and construction. A small single-story with attic access sits at the short end; a large two-story on a slab takes longer. Patching the drywall openings adds a day or two, and your quote comes with the expected day-by-day sequence.
Will my water be shut off during a repipe?
Only during planned windows in working hours, and you will have water every evening and night. The new PEX system is installed alongside the old pipes first, while the old system keeps serving the house. Toilets, showers, and the kitchen come back on before we leave each day.
Do plumbers cut walls open to repipe a house, and who fixes them?
Yes, a repipe needs access openings where new lines connect to fixtures, and in our quotes the patching is included in the price. Expect neat rectangular openings behind sinks, toilets, and showers rather than walls torn out wholesale; most of the new pipe travels through the attic. Texture and paint are agreed upfront.
How much does it cost to repipe a house in Florida?
The cost depends on the number of bathrooms and fixtures, the home's size and stories, how reachable the attic and walls are, and the amount of patching. Slab homes that reroute overhead avoid the heavy cost of tunneling under concrete. Rather than quote ranges we would have to invent, we walk the house and give you a free estimate with one fixed number in writing.
Is PEX safe for drinking water?
Yes, PEX is certified for potable water in all fifty states and has decades of residential service behind it. It suits Florida for practical reasons too: it does not corrode in our mineral-heavy aquifer water, it tolerates attic heat, and fewer joints mean fewer future leak points. Where a connection calls for rigid pipe, we use copper stub-outs.
